The second World Corporate Chess Championships have wrapped up their qualification stage, with eight teams now primed for the eagerly awaited over-the-board finals in New York. The online qualifiers witnessed fierce competition among 64 teams from 46 companies across 26 countries and four continents. Notable contenders included Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, UBS, Von Doren Watch Company, J.P. Morgan, Airbus, Freedom Holding, Bosch, Maruti Suzuki, and Deutsche Bank.
Teams, mostly comprising amateur players and
enthusiasts, were allowed to include one player with a FIDE rating exceeding
2400 points, with some enlisting top Grandmasters like Jan-Krzysztof Duda,
Andrew Tang, European Women's Chess Champion WGM Ulviyya Fataliyeva, WGM
Jolanta Zawadzka, and eight-year-old chess prodigy Bodhana Sivanandan from the
UK.
The qualifying stage involved online tournaments
featuring rapid and blitz formats, culminating in an intense knockout stage.
The eight successful teams will gather in New York from June 15 to 17 for
over-the-board matches, including group stage and playoff rounds.
